After reading and watching so many news articles and posts regarding the Orlando mass shooting, I felt like I had to do something and be proactive. For me, that something is taking photographs. If I can showcase what we’re going through in New York to anyone who will take the time to look, then I’ll feel like I’m doing a tiny part in helping out.
This afternoon, I went to the Stonewall Inn where a pop up memorial has sprung up that pays tribute to the 49 lives we have lost over this past weekend.
You’ll see a portrait of a woman named Jamie who I had the privilege to meet. She had just moved to New York a week ago from Orlando and didn’t have anywhere else to go to mourn the friends she lost over in the shooting. Kindly, she allowed me to take her photo to help add a face to this awful moment in our history.

If you’re even remotely on the fence about this, please click here and watch Samantha Bee explain why simply praying will never be enough.
